An artifact is an object made or used by human beings.A cup, a knife or glass beads are all artifacts.Trees, rocks, shells are not artifacts unless they have been made into a useful object by a human being: a dugout canoe made from the trunk of a tree, beads made from shells, arrowheads and spear points made from rocks.
